Born on February 1, 1920 in Beijing, and died on April 9, 2013 (aged 93) in Nyon, was a Chinese painter and engraver naturalized in France in 1964.
His oeuvre is vast. It includes the realistic paintings of his early years, which were mainly portraits, a few still lifes and landscapes (1935-1949), as well as large-format oil paintings inspired by Paul Klee that tended towards abstraction from the 1950s, then lyrical abstraction in the 1960s, Chinese inks and calligraphy.
France has paid tribute to him on several occasions. He was named Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor, Commander of the National Order of Merit, and Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters.
